[ARCHIVED] Fourth of July Celebrates our Heroes!

drawing on the sidewalk

The annual “Electric Light Parade” is going virtual and lights are optional for this parade. The City of Las Cruces Parks and Recreation Department announces, “Celebrating our Heroes” Virtual Electric Light Parade. The event is a tribute to all those who have kept the community going through this pandemic. Las Crucens can show their appreciation by submitting photo entries aligned with the theme and be entered to win in one of several categories.

Here is how it works: Create a Fourth of July parade entry by decorating a yard or vehicle, dressing in patriotic style, showing a pet’s patriotic spirit, or designing a patriotic face covering. Categories include Yard and Vehicle Decorations, Patriotic Family Photo, Patriotic Pets, Patriotic Hairstyle or Face Paint, and Patriotic Face Covering.

Take a photo of the tribute and submit it by email to enter the virtual parade competition. This is not a photo contest; entries will be judged on the representation of the theme, creativity, and quality of workmanship. Remember, lights are optional and are not a part of the judging criteria.

All entries will be showcased in a virtual parade event on CLC TV 20 and social media. Prizes will be awarded to First, Second, and Third place winners in each category, and first place winners will also receive lawn signs to display. All winners will be announced on the Fourth of July during the virtual parade. The deadline to submit entries is 11:59 p.m., Monday, June 29.
