Jaime Talamantes, the 30-year-old man suspected of the May 22 shooting that killed his own brother, was arrested Monday after more than two weeks on the run.
Talamantes is accused of shooting his brother, 31-year-old Juni Talamantes, after engaging in an argument on the 500 block of Mulberry Avenue.
About 12:30 a.m. on Friday, May 22, police were dispatched to the report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found Juni Talamantes suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was transported to Mountainview Regional Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators learned that Juni’s younger brother, Jaime Talamantes, was responsible for the shooting and fled the area before police arrived. Investigators obtained a warrant for the arrest of Jaime Talamantes but his whereabouts were not known until Monday.
LCPD patrol officers learned of Jaime Talamantes’ possible whereabouts on Monday and forwarded that information to the U.S. Marshals Service. On Monday afternoon, with the assistance of New Mexico State Police, the U.S. Marshals Service executed the arrest warrant and took Talamantes into custody without further incident.
Jaime Talamantes is charged with one first-degree felony count of murder and one count of aggravated assault. He was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center and is initially being held without bond.
