Numerous accomplishments through the development and implementation of strategic business plans by City government departments were cited during a Monday, June 22 Las Cruces City Council work session.
In Spring 2017 the Mayor, City Council, and City leadership created a results-based City-wide Strategic Plan. This was a three to five-year year plan. An update of the strategic plan, through the City’s 2020 fiscal year, was presented during Monday’s work session.
While pleased with the progress City departments have made so far with their strategic business plans, there was consensus by the council that it will need to continue monitoring future years and performance through 2022.
Following the development of the City Council Strategic Plan, City departments went through a process of developing Department Strategic Business Plans. Among some of the highlights, there was a sense of accomplishment that the Las Cruces community has experienced improved engagement with the City government in the past three years. Council work sessions conducted at locations away from City Hall, in each of the six City Council districts, and the establishment and increased public popularity of a Neighborhood Leadership Academy have been some of the programs that have helped improve engagement.
While there have been some logistical problems conducting council work sessions away from City Hall, there was council consensus that evening work sessions or meetings could continue, perhaps quarterly, at City Hall.
