[ARCHIVED] Man Suspected in Armed Robbery Arrested after SWAT Callout

Darrion Jackson Arrest Mug

The man believed to be responsible for Monday’s armed robbery near a popular grocery store was located and arrested after an hours-long SWAT callout.

Darrion Jackson, 20, of the 2900 block of Tulip Circle, is charged with a second-degree felony count of armed robbery.

About 4:30 p.m. Monday, June 29, Las Cruces police were dispatched to the report of an armed robbery that occurred in the parking lot of Sprouts Farmers Market, 2340 E. Lohman Ave. Officers learned motorcyclists parked his bike on the west side of the store when a four-door sedan suddenly approached. The victim told police a man exited the vehicle, threatened him with a handgun, and demanded his backpack.

After obtaining the backpack, the suspect got back into the vehicle and fled the area.

Less than half an hour after that call, police were dispatched to the report of an armed man at a home on the 1100 block of Colorado Avenue. Police later learned that man, and a car seen near that address matched the descriptions given of the armed robbery suspect.

Police obtained a warrant to search the home and tried to make contact with the occupants of the home, but to no avail. LCPD’s SWAT team was activated and tried, for several hours, to establish communication with the occupants of the home. Early Tuesday morning, members of the SWAT team entered the home and located Jackson and another man hiding in a crawl space under the home.

Jackson was detained and subsequently arrested for his part in the armed robbery. No charges have been filed against the second man located in the home. Jackson was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he’s initially being held without bond.
