An apartment fire on Foster Road was quickly extinguished by firefighters Monday evening.
Shortly after 8 p.m., firefighters at Las Cruces Fire Station 2 learned of a fire at a nearby apartment complex at 810 Foster Road. Upon arrival, firefighters found a first-floor apartment fully engulfed. Firefighters attacked the blaze and simultaneously evacuated residents from nearby apartments.
The fire was extinguished and primarily contained to the single apartment. However, one resident of an adjoining apartment suffered smoke inhalation and was transported to a local hospital.
Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire. Damage estimates have yet to be determined.
As firefighters battled Monday evening’s blaze, a motorist partially drove over a 5-inch water hose that had been extended across the parking lot. The Las Cruces Fire Department wishes to remind residents to refrain from driving over hoses as such action can damage the line and limit the firefighters’ ability to attack the blaze.
