[ARCHIVED] Special Council Meeting to Discuss Extending the Mayor’s Emergency Proclamation on Face Coverings

Las Cruces City Council has scheduled a special meeting for Monday, July 6, immediately following the regularly scheduled Council Meeting at 1 p.m. Council will discuss a resolution to extend the Mayor’s Emergency Proclamation 2020-05 (read here) related to the requiring of wearing face coverings by both patrons and employees when appropriate social distancing of six feet cannot be maintained between individuals of the business inside the City limits of Las Cruces.

As part of the Mayor’s Emergency Proclamation, business owners who violate this proclamation will face a $100 fine for every individual within the place of business found not to be wearing an appropriate face covering, but fines shall not exceed $500 per occurrence.

The Mayor’s Emergency Proclamation is set to expire Monday July 6. The Council can vote to extend for such additional periods of time as determined necessary by City Council.

On March 27, City Council approved an emergency declaration ordinance that provides the mayor and mayor pro-tem the authority to take immediate action for the protection of life and property, and for the preservation of public peace, safety, health, welfare, and for the continuity of efficient government operations.

The special Council meeting will be conducted via video conference, televised on CLC-TV Comcast channel 20, online at CLCTV.com, and at YouTube.com/clctv20.

The health, safety and well-being of Las Cruces residents and businesses remains a top priority for City Council and the leadership in Las Cruces.

In an effort to seek public input through video conferences, City Council asks residents who may have comments, concerns, or questions for any regularly scheduled or special council meeting or work session to please e-mail their City Councilor as follows:
