The City of Las Cruces City Council and Administration endorses the actions of the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) in calling for the immediate closure of the Las Cruces Walmart Store on Rinconada Boulevaard, in order to keep Las Crucens safe as they shop for essential items locally. Read the NMED statement here.

During the past weekend, the NMED’s Occupational Health and Safety Bureau posted notice of "imminent and substantial endangerment to employees and the public" at the Rinconada Boulevard Walmart store after four employees tested positive for COVID-19.

In a news release issued July 11, the NMED stated the test results of rapid response testing for the virus identified that four employees tested positive during a three-week time span.

The State is urging customers who visited the Las Cruces Walmart since June 22, and any other residents who believe they may have been exposed, to seek testing. Testing is widely available across the state, and testing locations and times can easily be identified by visiting the following website: https://cvprovider.nmhealth.org/directory.html.

The City of Las Cruces would like to reiterate the importance of adhering to the Governor’s Health Order and COVID-safe practices like regular hand washing, wearing a mask, avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth, staying home and avoiding unnecessary travel, no mass gatherings (to include parties), covering coughs or sneezes, cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects, getting tested if you feel you have symptoms or have been around those who may be infected, and self-quarantine when necessary.
