To reduce the spread of COVID-19, the City of Las Cruces will hold a free face mask and sanitation kit giveaway on Saturday, July 18, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Two options for mask pick up will be available. A drive-thru set up will be located at the parking garage of City Hall, the entrance is located at the corner of North Campo and East Mountain Ave.
A walk-up grab-n-go option will be located at the parking lot of the Branigan Memorial Library, located at 200 E. Picacho Ave.
“We want to reach as many people as possible, that is why we are offering two options including one for those who might not have a car,” said Lynn Gallagher, Quality of Life Director.
The event is part of the Quality of Life Department’s newest campaign “Mask Up Las Cruces,” whose objective is to encourage and educate the community about the benefits of wearing a face covering when out in public, as well as provide a face mask to those who might not have one.
“In compliance with all public health orders, staff and attendees are required to social distance and wear their masks.” Gallagher added.
During the event, attendees will be able to pick up a free face mask or a sanitation kit, which includes a hand sanitizer, a box of tissues, and a reusable cloth face mask. Quantities are limited; all items will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Recently, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham again amended the public health order requiring the use of face-covering when in public spaces. The event aims to help Las Crucens to comply with the order.
Attendees can also pick up a Take & Make Activity Kit for kids, and Census takers will be helping community members answer the 2020 Census.
