The Las Cruces City Council will conduct a Special Meeting, by video conference, at 9 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2020.

The council will consider the adoption of a resolution to implement the Las Cruces Safe Promise, as proposed by the Las Cruces Economic Recovery Board, at Friday’s Special Meeting. The council will also be presented with a COVID-19 update.

The meeting will be televised live at 9 a.m. Friday on Comcast Cable channel 20, and will also be available online at clctv.com and at youtube.com/clctv20.

At a June 18 meeting of the Las Cruces Economic Recovery Ad Hoc Board, members discussed ways to build public confidence in frequenting local businesses as Las Cruces’ economy continues to reopen during the COVID-19 pandemic. A key to building public confidence is to make local consumers aware of the work that businesses complete in order to maintain COVID Safe Practices. It is also important to know that the percentages of Doña Ana County residents not infected with COVID-19 and the recovery rate of those who are infected are both very high.

City Business Development Administrator Mandy Guss presented information at the June 18 meeting about the city’s micro-loan program to assist businesses.

The Economic Recovery Board was established by City Council earlier this year to make specific recommendations to the Mayor and City Council to help guide safe, the gradual reopening of Las Cruces’ economy affected by the COVID-10 pandemic in a smart, safe and effective manner.

The Las Cruces Safe Promise program is modeled after the New Mexico Safe Promise program, which is an initiative open to all businesses and individuals in the state who want to demonstrate their personal commitment to following COVID-safe practices. Individuals and businesses can take the New Mexico Safe Promise pledge at www.nmsafepromise.org.

The COVID-19 update will include a question-and-answer session with representatives of the New Mexico Department of Health. An appropriations update is also on the agenda.

The health, safety, and well-being of our residents and businesses are a top priority for City Council and the leadership in Las Cruces. As such, and consistent with and in support of the direction from Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and the New Department of Health public health order, the Special Council Meeting will be conducted via video conference. To promote public input, if any City residents have comments, concerns, or questions regarding any of the topics to be discussed at the Special Meeting they should e-mail their City Councilor as follows:
