[ARCHIVED] Public Opportunity to Learn More about Building Permit Fees

Home being contructed

Las Cruces community members have more opportunities to learn about building permit fees charged by the City’s Community Development Department, which has not increased fees for 14 years, since 2006.

The public can go online to view a presentation on the fee increases and also have an opportunity to provide any comments or ask questions related to the presentation. The presentation is on the City’s website at www.las-cruces.org/BuildingPermitFees . The City of Las Cruces is asking members of the public for any comments or concerns they may have regarding these fees. Please send your comments or concerns by email to clcengage@las-cruces.org. If you have questions about any part of the PowerPoint presentation, please email those questions to the same email address and we will email you to discuss your individual and specific question.

The Community Development Department will also be presenting again to City Council during a City Council work session scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday, August 11 using Zoom virtual meetings. To access the meeting, go to the City website at http://www.las-cruces.org, scroll down the page and click on the City Council Meetings button to find the work session access information.

The City Council considered Resolution 20-019 on July 20, 2020 that called for increases in permit fees related to a variety of services provided by the Community Development Department for permitting and inspections. “The resolution calls for simplifying and streamlining the fees list into one document and update the fees in general to current market conditions,” explained Department Director Larry Nichols.

“This is important to allow for consistency in the fee structure and to partially compensate for increasing costs of resources to support the services provided by the department personnel, which includes adopting newer technology that helps improve the customer service experience,” he said.

The City Council tabled the resolution until the work session occurs to ensure community members in general understand the need for the increases at this time.
