Get ready to take the Las Cruces Safe Promise and commit to keeping the community as safe as possible from the COVID-19 virus, because your promise can support the success of our local businesses.
The Las Cruces Safe Promise is a good-faith promise that community members can officially make to follow COVID-Safe practices.
“Even as we progress toward fewer restrictions over time by the New Mexico Governor’s office and Department of Health,” explained Griselda Martinez, the City’s Economic Development Department director, “we must remain vigilant in the COVID-safe practices to keep everyone healthy and keep the community functioning for success.”
The idea of the promise was developed by the Las Cruces Economic Recovery Board (LCERB) which is a grassroots campaign that supports the efforts the state is doing to raise awareness of COVID-safe practices and to rebuild consumer confidence in the community for all Las Cruces businesses. LCERB is an ad-hoc committee appointed by Mayor Ken Miyagishima, and board membership comprises community representatives of businesses, non-profit organizations, and the Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce.
Las Cruces Safe Promise supports the state’s New Mexico Safe Promise designed for businesses. A component of the New Mexico Safe Promise is the New Mexico Safe Certified Program that enables businesses to take specific training on COVID-safe practices and awareness. Once successfully completing the training, a business because certified and can display this certification for their customers.
“But individuals have to do their part too,” said Martinez. “And this is where the Las Cruces Safe Promise connects.”
Participation in the promise is a way to show that all individual actions count, and that those who make the promise will keep themselves and others safe to help build and restore consumer confidence that Las Cruces is safe for everyone – including businesses, their employees and their customers.
The point of the Las Cruces Safe Promise is to encourage residents, visitors, and customers of Las Cruces to carry out safe practices to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by wearing face masks, socially distancing, and vigilant hand-washing/sanitizing. The actual promise states that:
- I promise to act as if I carry the corona virus
- I promise to maintain social distancing of at least six feet
- I promise to wear a face covering, wash my hands, use sanitizer
- I promise to buy from local businesses that also make this promise
- I promise to practice patience, compassion, empathy, connection, respect and love
Everyone who takes the Las Cruces Safe Promise is listed on the City’s website at Las Cruces Safe Promise under the Partners tab. The list is updated as the promises are submitted using the online form.
