Mandy Leatherwood Guss

The City of Las Cruces announces that Mandy Leatherwood Guss has been named the City’s new Director of Communications.

Guss joined the City in March of 2016 as Marketing Coordinator for the then Community & Cultural Services Department. Later that year, she was named the Interim Economic Development Coordinator. When the City created the Economic Development Department in early 2017, Guss became the City’s Business Development Administrator, overseeing Business Development and Destination Downtown.

Guss has a bachelor’s degree from New Mexico State University with a double major in Journalism & Mass Communication and Communication Studies. She also earned a Masters of Business Administration degree at NMSU.

“I’m really excited to take on this role with the City. I look forward to working with a talented team to share with the community the good work being done throughout the City organization,” Guss said.

Prior to joining the City, Guss served as Community Liaison for Ambercare Home Heath and as Marketing Director at Memorial Medical Center.

Guss has also been very active in the Las Cruces Community. She is a Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce Leadership Las Cruces graduate and an advisor for the Junior Leadership Las Cruces program. She serves as Publicity Chair for Rio Grande Rotary Club, and she volunteers as a Big Sister with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program.

Guss begins her service in the Communications Office on September 13.
