An employee of the Animal Services of the Mesilla Valley (ASCMV) has tested positive for COVID-19. The test results came back shortly before noon Monday, Oct. 26, 2020.
“As soon as we heard about the positive test result, the management team met and initiated deep cleaning protocols that include all surfaces,” ASCMV Executive Director Clint Thacker said. “We also began contacting staff who may have had exposure and told them to get tested right away.”
All persons who have made appointments to visit the ASCMV will be contacted and given the option to reschedule, cancel, or keep their appointments. Future appointments will be scaled back to reduce the number of people in the building, Thacker added.
ASCMV’s volunteers also have been notified and told they can choose whether to continue to volunteer. ASCMV staff has a masking policy in place when staff is in close proximity to others. Gloves are recommended but not required. Frequent hand washing is regularly practiced. Thacker said the ASCMV will remain open for limited services. “We are only accepting the sick, injured, or aggressive animals at this time,” he said. “All adoptions are by appointment only.”
