[ARCHIVED] Las Cruces Utilities Warns of Possible Scam Regarding Water Sample Collection

Faucet dripping water

Las Cruces Utilities (LCU), which provides gas, water, wastewater, and solid waste service to the Las Cruces area, is advising that an unknown person may be approaching citizens stating they need to collect a water sample to test for contamination. LCU is warning this may be a potential scam

LCU is not currently soliciting samples of water for use in testing for contamination. However, should LCU personnel need to collect water samples, they are easily identified with a City of Las Cruces uniform, a City of Las Cruces identification badge, and they will arrive in a City of Las Cruces or LCU marked vehicle, and can immediately provide a business card. Please also note that LCU consistently tests all drinking water to ensure it is clean and safe.

LCU customers who receive such solicitations are encouraged to call Water Operations and Maintenance if they are concerned at (575) 528-3515.
