[ARCHIVED] GO Bond Recreational Trail Improvements on Track

Go bond recreational Trail

Progress of planned improvements to city recreational trails as outlined in the voter-approved General Obligation (GO) Bond project is moving forward as the City of Las Cruces works with partnering agencies to finalize trail connections. Current information and trail maps can be found at www.las-cruces.org/GOBondRecTrails

The GO Bond Recreational Trails project, approved by voters in 2018, will implement aspects of the Trail System Priorities Plan by the Mesilla Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization (MVMPO) plan. The project involves the alignment of the Las Cruces Lateral Trail, Armijo Lateral Trail, and the Southwest City Loop Trail which will complete a city loop at the southern point of the Armijo Lateral Trail and Southwest City Loop Trail. Wayfinding signage is also part of the GO Bond project.

The City of Las Cruces is working with Elephant Butte Irrigation District (EBID) for lateral alignment. Several awareness meetings have been hosted by the City of Las Cruces, and because the trails are impacted by other partnering agencies, the project is subject to limitations in any proposed changes suggested by community members.

The next steps include obtaining permits required from EBID, amending the existing Design-Build contract, and presenting to City Council for approval.

Comments and questions can be sent to clcengage@las-cruces.org. For status on all GO Bond projects, go to www.las-cruces.org/GOBondProjects.
