[ARCHIVED] Beautify Safely - The Mask-Up to Clean-Up Way

Mask up to clean up

“Mask Up to Clean Up”, the COVID-safe variation of “Team Up to Clean Up” district events, will launch on November 21 with the first in a series of district dates when community members can help clean up neighborhoods or litter-prone areas of the city.

The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department’s Keep Las Cruces Beautiful (KLCB) will begin the next series of district cleanups in District 1, represented by Mayor Pro Tem Kasandra Gandara, from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, November 21.

With COVID-19 safety guidelines still in place, community members can do clean-ups with immediate family, in groups of five or fewer, or do individual clean-ups of their neighborhood as part of an initiative to have all residents join efforts toward maintaining the property, beginning with where they live. Other guidelines to follow are to wear masks, practice social distancing, and wash hands regularly or use hand sanitizer. KLCB will provide supplies such as bags, gloves, and locations within the district.

Las Cruces Utilities Solid Waste will provide a roll-off container at 750 S. Espina St. at Valley View Park for the Saturday event, available for District 1 residents to utilize throughout the weekend. KLCB staff will have a supply station at that location during the event.

“Team Up to Clean Up!” is a beautification program initiated in 2019 to help reverse the process of neighborhood deterioration and enhance the quality of life in the city. “Mask Up to Clean Up!” is a call to enlist residents, during this time of COVID, to voluntarily pitch in to do clean-ups where they live that create a cleaner, safer, and healthier environment.

Residents can find their district at las-cruces.org/DistrictMap, and the times are the same for each date. Schedule for cleanups:

November 21 District 1 – Mayor Pro Tem Kasandra A. Gandara

December 19 District 2 – Councilor Tessa Abeyta-Stuve

January 23 District 3 – Councilor Gabriel Vasquez

February 20 District 4 – Councilor Johana Bencomo

March 20 District 5 – Councilor Gill M. Sorg

April 17 District 6 – Councilor Yvonne M. Flores
