Las Cruces firefighters extinguished a second-floor apartment fire near the corner of Third Street and McFie Avenue Sunday evening.
Shortly before 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, firefighters were dispatched to the report of a fire in a second-floor apartment. Firefighters simultaneously evacuated tenants from nearby apartments and attacked the fire inside the apartment.
The fire was extinguished in about 10 minutes.
No injuries were reported. Three cats were found inside the building and were reunited with their owner.
The apartment sustained heavy fire and smoke damage. Cause of the fire is still under investigation. There are no damage estimates available at this time.
The Las Cruces Fire Department wishes to remind occupants of single-family residential structures and apartments to check their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors regularly and replace batteries if needed.
