[ARCHIVED] Construction to Resume on I-25/University Avenue Project

A computer generated image of the redesigned interchange at Interstate 25 and University Avenue.

Construction is scheduled to resume Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020, on the Interstate 25/University Avenue Project following a two-week suspension related to COVID-19.

As work commences again, the I-25 northbound loop ramp is closed for traffic safety. Eastbound and westbound traffic on University Avenue can access northbound I-25 from the on-ramp at the traffic signal.

Additionally, Triviz Drive is closed between University Avenue and Wisconsin Avenue through early January 2021 so construction of the north roundabout can be completed. Traffic is detoured to Missouri Avenue, Solano Drive, then back to University Avenue.

Access will be maintained to hotels and Pan Am Plaza from Locust Avenue to Wisconsin Avenue.

The right lane of Triviz Avenue is closed from Arrowhead Drive to the University Avenue intersection through late December. Two lanes of traffic are open in each direction.

Through mid-December, south Triviz Drive is closed from Arrowhead Drive to Stewart Street to allow crews to finish work on the south roundabout. Also closed are the direct connections to the New Mexico State University parking lots from I-25 and north Triviz Drive.

Motorists can use Stewart Street and Arrowhead Drive to access south Triviz Drive, University Avenue, and the parking lots during this closure. Motorists should use alternate routes or expect delays, especially during morning and afternoon rush hours, if they plan on traveling through the construction zone.

Regular work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Crews may work longer hours or weekends as needed.

The monthly virtual public meeting for the project will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, 2020. The meeting will be televised on the Las Cruces Channel, on Comcast Cable channel 98. The meeting will also be available online on the Las Cruces Channel’s Facebook page and the project’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/I25University/.
