[ARCHIVED] Mask Up Las Cruces December Giveaway

Mask Up December with santa and a mask

The City of Las Cruces will hold its fifth FREE drive-thru mask distribution from 1 - 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 12, at Mesilla Park Elementary, 955 W Union Avenue.

Reusable masks for adults and kids will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis as part of the City’s ongoing campaign – Mask Up Las Cruces. There is no cost, no ID, nor registration required to pick up a mask.

“Don’t let COVID-19 disrupt the Christmas, Hannukah, and holiday season! The Mask Up event provides our community a reusable mask that may also save a life this holiday season.” said Lynn Gallagher, Quality of Life Director.

Recently the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended “universal mask use” outside people’s homes as part of guidance aimed at slowing the spread of COVID-19. The CDC warned that the United States, has entered “a phase of high-level transmission” as colder weather and the ongoing holiday season push Americans inside.

“We understand the COVID-19 pandemic has been extremely stressful and isolating but the risk of infection is so much higher when we are in close contact with others not from the same household”, said Gallagher.

In compliance with all public health orders, staff and volunteers will be wearing personal protective equipment and social distancing requirements will be observed at all times.

To support local business the City partnered up with many local organizations to create the website www.shopsouthernnm.com
