This City of Las Cruces is passing along this information from MFA to ensure Las Cruces residents have access to apply for rent or mortgage assistance.
The following information is direct from MFA:
This Friday (5 pm) is deadline for this round of MFA CARES Act rent or mortgage assistance -- online, dropped off or postmarked Friday if mailed.
MFA is accepting applications through this Friday, January 8, 5:00 pm, for rent and mortgage assistance for households who have experienced a COVID-19 related financial hardship:
"Recipients will receive as much as $1,500 per month for up to three months to pay past-due rent or mortgage payments. In addition, payments on real estate contracts, mobile or manufactured home liens and the land or lots on which they are located may also be covered."
Apply online (see web page link below) if possible. If you can't apply online, you can call 308-4206 to request that a paper application be emailed to you (as a case manager/advocate you can request that it be emailed to you and you can print out copies for your clients to submit). Anyone who received CARES Act COVID-19 rent or mortgage assistance from MFA previously cannot apply again. Info is found on the COVID-19 Housing Assistance Program page of NM MFA's website: https://housingnm.org/static/covid-assistance. In the first paragraph there is a link to a summary "factsheet."
(Note: This info is also accessible on the home page of NM MFA under "What's New at MFA" -- "COVID-19 rent or mortgage assistance.")
Applications and documentation can be mailed in if postmarked no later than January 8, or you can drop off the application at:
New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority
344 Fourth St. SW
Albuquerque, NM 87102
Note: If your application is incomplete, you will be given 10 calendar days to submit the missing information.
Applications are being processed first come first served, but funding will be awarded with priority to those with the lowest incomes. Note: Because of delayed processing times, the helpline staffperson indicated that assistance funds will not be awarded until sometime in February.
