The Las Cruces City Council met via video conference for a Special Work Session of slightly more than six hours on Friday, Jan. 22, 2021. Discussed were priorities that will be used to shape and modify an update to City government’s Strategic Plan.
The Special Work Session was moderated by Management Partners, a professional management consulting firm specializing in helping government organizations improve through strategic planning.
The consultants assisted the Council in identifying best practices that could help shape policies to continue efficient operations of City of Las Cruces government.
The City’s Elevate Las Cruces Comprehensive Plan was used as the basis for much of the discussions between the Council and consultants. Since it is community-based and reflects the input of a wide variety of residents, stakeholders, and City staff member, there was consensus among the Council that Elevate Las Cruces should continue to play a central role in planning.
Among the themes discussed by City Council that they believe should be included in an updated Strategic Plan include:
Community Prosperity
Education and Community Services
Environmental Sustainability
Improve Capital Improvement and Infrastructure
Enhance Public Safety
Improve Communication, Involvement and Follow-Up
There was also Council consensus that an updated Strategic Plan should focus on priorities that can implemented and achieved by City government in the next two to five years.
All information discussed by the Council will be used by Management Partners to work with City staff to prepare a draft Strategic Plan that could be ready for City Council’s review in early March.
