Las Cruces International Airport will receive $837,312 in supplemental Airport Improvement Program funds, awarded by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The funding will be used to install perimeter fence around the Las Cruces airport. Las Cruces International Airport is one of three New Mexico airports to be awarded the federal funds. Airports in Hobbs and Santa Fe also received federal funds, and the three airports in New Mexico are among 127 U.S. airports to be awarded supplemental federal funds.
“This supplemental funding allows us to invest in important infrastructure needs at the nation’s airports, especially those serving smaller and rural communities,” said U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao.
Griselda Martinez, Interim Economic Development Director, said the City’s ability to obtain the award was an impressive team effort involving Las Cruces International Airport Manager Andy Hume and airport staff members Lori Ann Romero, Josh Garcia, Sammy Garcia and Cody Sedillos; Grants Administration Program Manager Amy Bassford, Public Works Director David Maestas and Public Works Deputy Director David Sedillo.
“I am appreciative of all the work up to this point,” Martinez said. “We look forward to more successes.”
The FAA is administering the supplemental funding to strengthen the safety and efficiency of U.S. airports. These investments increase the nation’s competitiveness and improve the quality of life for the traveling public, according to FAA officials.
