Thomas Branigan Memorial Library invites residents to hear Neylan McBaine, the author of Pioneering the Vote: the untold story of suffragists in Utah and the West.
The even will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, February 4 on ZOOM.
Pioneering the Vote tells the remarkable, largely unknown story of the early suffrage victories in the American West.
McBaine tells the story of how, on Feb. 14, 1870, 23-year-old Seraph Young came to be the first American woman to cast a ballot with suffrage rights equal to men’s rights. She relates how Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, and Idaho granted suffrage rights to women 50 years before the addition of women’s suffrage to the U.S. Constitution as the 19th Amendment, in 1920.
