Google is coming to Las Cruces as part of the tech company’s Grow with Google
initiative, which aims to help create economic opportunity in communities across
the United States. Grow with Google will be at Thomas Branigan Memorial
Library, 200 E. Picacho Ave., from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. March 20, 2019.
The free, one-day event will help job seekers, small business owners, students,
educators and entrepreneurs improve their digital skills. Google staff will lead
hands-on workshops about online marketing for small businesses, search engine
optimization, email basics and coding. Attendees can also sign up for one-on-one
training with Google staff, and tour demo booths to learn more about Google’s
free products for learners and small businesses. Attendees are welcome to drop in for a few sessions or stay all day.
Specifically, Google’s initiative aims to help address the skills gap by preparing Americans for middle-skill jobs, positions that require some skills
but not four year degrees. “Branigan Library is excited to partner with the ‘Grow with Google’ program,” said Margaret Neill, Library Administrator.
“Digital literacy is essential for small business owners, job seekers and anyone who wants to understand and use technology. Being able to work
with Google to offer these classes is an amazing opportunity for our community.”
Google is partnering with community organizations like Thomas Branigan Memorial Library and the
Las Cruces Green Chamber of Commerce. Following the Grow with Google event, Google will explore
ongoing partnership opportunities with area organizations to help with job training and developing
digital skills. To learn more about the free event and to register, visit g.co/GrowNewMexico. Space is
expected to be limited, so people are urged to register in advance.
