A Water Rehab project for Las Cruces Utilities will start at Old Farm Road with the construction of a new water main that will head east along the Gillem Lateral to Stanford Street. The existing water system will be connected to the new water main at Stanford Street and then back on to the Gillem Lateral heading east to Carreon Drive. From Gillem Lateral and Carreon Drive, the new water main will head north to Stern Drive.
Improvements will be done on Stern Drive and Yale Drive. The existing water system in Carreon Drive needs replacement and the construction of a new water line in Gillem Lateral will loop the water system to improve circulation, reliability and to reinforce pressure. Diamond Construction will be constructing the work for the Water Main Rehabilitation, Carreon Place, and the Alley North of Picacho.
Motorists are advised that there will be a lane closure north of the intersection of Old Farm Road and the Gillem Lateral starting on Tuesday, February 16, and is anticipated to be in effect for one week depending on weather conditions. Motorists wanting to avoid any possible delays should seek an alternative route. Access to surrounding residences will be maintained during the construction. For the public’s convenience, crews will work only Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. leaving the evenings free of construction activity. The lane closure will not affect the RoadRUNNER Transit route. The City has verified that no conflicting public or private construction projects will take place in that immediate area during this time. The work activity is in City Council District #2.
