Las Cruces City Council priorities for City government’s 2022 fiscal year will be discussed at a 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22, 2021 Council Work Session to be conducted via video conference.
In November, the City’s Public Works Department and Budget Office met with Mayor Ken Miyagishima and each City Councilor to gather their priorities for Fiscal Year 2022, which begins July 1, 2021.
From those discussions, the Public Works Department and Budget Office created a list of all Council priorities and have developed a fact sheet for each priority. Monday’s Work Session will include a review of the fact sheets and there will be City Council discussion of which priorities to include in the City's 2022 fiscal year budget, specifically for the Capital Improvement Plan and the operating budget.
How Las Cruces’ economy has fared during the past year of the pandemic will also be reviewed and discussed at Monday’s Work Session. The City’s Economic Development Department will present a general economic overview to City Council to include data for unemployment rates, labor force, top employment industries, housing market conditions, business registration trends, and other economic variables. The presentation is to inform the Council of key economic indicators while highlighting areas of local growth compared to the region and the U.S.
Additionally, the Economic Development Department will present proposed marketing initiatives for the West Mesa Industrial Park. The Industrial Park acts as an economic development engine and was prioritized by City Council in the Strategic Plan.
The Work Session will be televised on CLC-TV, Comcast Cable channel 20. It will also be available online at clctv.com and at YouTube.com/clctv20.
