The Readers of the Purple Sage Book Club invite you to a discussion with author J. Todd Scott, on Thursday, March 11, 2021, from 12:30 pm to 1:30 p.m. (MT) via Zoom. The Book Club will be reading and discussing Lost River.

J. Todd Scott, a 25-year veteran of the DEA and award-winning novelist, joins us to discuss his most recent work, Lost River. This new novel shines a light at the opioid epidemic in small town America during a 24 hour period.

Angel, Kentucky is rocked by the vicious mass killing of an infamous local crime family. Lost River introduces Phoenix-based Special Agent Casey Alexander to Angel, Kentucky’s small town ways of ruthless self-preservation as he navigates an investigate into the bloody aftermath. Despite the darkness surrounding the town, however, there is a thin stream of light shining hope into the lives of the survivors.

 J. Todd Scott was born in rural Kentucky and attended college and law school in Virginia, where he set aside an early ambition to write to pursue a career as a federal agent. His assignments have taken him all over the U.S. and the world. He investigated international maritime smuggling and domestic meth labs and led a multi-agency strike force dedicated to attacking Mexican cartel smuggling routes. Those first novels, a trilogy of award-winners, The Far Empty, High White Sun, and This Side of Night, feature Sheriff Chris Cherry of the Big Bend area of Texas with ties to El Paso as well.

Scott is now at the helm of Drug Enforcement Administration operations in Kentucky, Tennessee, and West Virginia. He began his new role in March 2020 as a special agent in charge of the Louisville Field Division, overseeing nearly 400 drug agents, intelligence analysts, and staff.

To be added to the Zoom invite list for the discussion contact:  sagelibrary@las-cruces.org (e-mail) with Lost River as the subject.
