A road closure will be in place at the intersection of Stanford Street and the Gillem Lateral beginning Friday, March 12. Work is expected to take place for eight days to conclude a water rehab project for Las Cruces Utilities.
The project includes a new water main that will cross Stanford Street and continue east along the Gillem Lateral to Carreon Drive. From the Gillem Lateral and Carreon Drive, the new water main will head north to Stern Drive.
Improvements will also be completed on Stern Drive and Yale Drive. The existing system is is need of replacement and the construction of the new water line along the Gillem Lateral will loop the water system to improve circulation, reliability and to reinforce pressure.
A detour will be set in place. Motorists wanting to avoid any possible delays should seek an alternative route. Access to surrounding residences will be maintained during the construction. For the public’s convenience, crews will work only Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. leaving the evenings free of construction activity.
The road closure will not affect the RoadRUNNER Transit route. The City has verified that no conflicting public or private construction projects will take place in that immediate area during this time. The work activity is in City Council District #2.
