The Las Cruces Fire Department Mobile Integrated Health Program (LCFD MIH) and Las Cruces Fire Department staff have been instrumental in supporting a program that helps some of Las Cruces' most vulnerable residents to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. LCFD MIH is currently working with Las Cruces Senior Programs and the New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) to help homebound individuals to receive the vaccine. The program began in Late February with MIH clients and has grown to allow for the vaccination of more homebound individuals.
The collaboration between each of these groups has allowed for about 50 individuals to receive the vaccines so far, and now the program is expanding to potentially provide up to 30 vaccinations daily. The Pfizer vaccine was used initially and now the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is being utilized, or whichever is most readily available for distribution.
Individuals must register for the vaccine through the Department of Health's online registration system. Registering for a COVID-19 vaccination will put a resident’s name on the list to receive an appointment for the vaccination as soon as they become eligible to receive the vaccine. For more information on vaccine registration visit vaccinenm.org or New Mexico residents can call 1-855-600-3453 for help with the registration process if they do not have internet access.
