Dr. Fidel Barrantes, a kidney specialist, will be speaking at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 23. Dr. Barrantes will be discussing the relationship between high blood pressure, diabetes, and the kidneys, and will cover ways to maintain healthy kidneys.
Dr. Barrantes is the President of the New Mexico Kidney Foundation, a transplant nephrologist and clinical hypertension specialist with Renal Medicine Associates and Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque.
He has a special interest in kidney disease education; health literacy, especially in disadvantaged and minority communities; kidney transplantation outcomes in the elderly and other high-risk groups; and in translational medicine which is focused on making sure disease treatments proven in research are implemented in clinical treatments.
