[ARCHIVED] Police Investigate Shooting Death on West Picacho Avenue

Las Cruces Police

Las Cruces police are investigating a shooting that claimed the life of a 37-year-old man early Sunday morning.

About 1 a.m. Sunday, March 28, Las Cruces police were dispatched to conduct a welfare check on a man at 1907 W. Picacho Ave. Officers arrived to find an unresponsive gunshot victim on the ground, outside an apartment. The man was declared deceased on scene.

Investigators learned that the victim got into a physical confrontation with a man who pulled out a handgun and fired at least one round. The victim stumbled out of the apartment and fell to the ground.

Police had reason to believe the suspect fled to a nearby apartment. Police surrounded the apartment and called out LCPD’s SWAT team to enter, but the suspect was not located inside.

Police are not identifying the suspect at this time as the investigation is still underway.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Las Cruces police at (575) 526-0795.
