[ARCHIVED] Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan

Desert Mountains

The New Mexico State Parks Division has launched the official website for the 2021 Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP).

State Parks -- in partnership with the National Park Service, Energy, Minerals, and Natural Resources Department, and the Outdoor Recreation Division within Economic Development -- will spend approximately the next several months collecting community input and outdoor recreation data to put together the overarching strategy for outdoor recreation in New Mexico for the next five years.

This process is important for a number of reasons. It is a mandatory document to unlock the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund, a critical outdoor recreation investment that was fully and permanently funded to the tune of $900 million annually last year. Even more importantly, SCORP is a platform for individuals, organizations, and communities to weigh in directly with their vision for outdoor recreation in the state.

There are a number of ways to participate in the process. First, take one of the surveys on the site (there’s one for residents and another for visitors). Then share with your friends and family. Read about the four focus groups that are helping guide the effort and reach out to us with questions about their upcoming meetings. Finally, stay tuned for a schedule of public meetings for early 2021.

You can also get the most current updates by subscribing to the SCORP newsletter:
