[ARCHIVED] 2021 Virtual Music at the Rio Grande Theatre

Rio Grande Theatre

The City of Las Cruces Parks and Recreation Department's popular Music in the Park Series continues with a special series of performances recorded at the beautiful Rio Grande Theatre. The series will highlight the diversity and great musical talent that Las Cruces, southern New Mexico, and El Paso have to offer. The performances will be aired through the department's web site (www.las-cruces.org) and the City of Las Cruces Vimeo page.  A schedule of posting dates is being finalized and will be announced soon.

"With Las Cruces moving into the yellow level of the Governor's Health Orders, it allows for use of indoor entertainment venues for recording entertainment without any in-person audience," said Phil Catanach, Recreation Administrator.

The 2021 Virtual Music at the Rio Grande Theatre includes twenty-one recordings, featuring performances by Dzaki Sukarno, Theory 7, Triple Jack, Yarbrough Band, Abe Mac Band, Joshua Lucero, and many more.

“As opportunities for programming increase, we want to stay engaged and connected with our area musicians,” Catanach said. “Musicians have felt the impact of this pandemic, as has our community. It's time to move forward, and music will help us do that.”

The Music in the Park Series is a major component of the City’s Parks and Recreation Department event schedule each summer. Since its start in 1994, Music in the Park has become a Las Cruces tradition during the summer months, bringing the community together to enjoy family, friends, and music.

Live Music in the Park events are scheduled to begin Memorial Day weekend. The Parks and Recreation Department will follow all state and local guidelines for community events with the health and safety of the community taking top priority.
