The Branigan Cultural Center is still closed to the public for scheduled maintenance, but you can still enjoy the museum from home through these online programs.

“History Notes: History of the Nakayama Farm”

Thursday, May 13, 1-2 p.m. (MST),

Discover history and culture through an informal discussion series on the second Thursday of each month at 1 p.m. The theme in April through June is “History of Agriculture.” In this presentation, Peggy Swoveland speaks about the history of the Nakayama Farm established by her grandfather. “What’s the Word: Arabic - A Trip to Libya”

Thursday, May 13, 5:30-6:30 p.m. (MST)

Learn language through culture! Dive into the history and traditions of Libya while learning and practicing Arabic language skills. These are not formal classes but provide an opportunity for learning and conversation between beginner and more experienced participants. “Celebrating Latinas: Stories from the Smithsonian”

Thursday, May 20, 5:30-6:30 p.m. (MST)

From marching on picket lines, to feeding the community, to using art to make a statement, Latina women have been at the center of helping the community fight for change. Steve Velasquez, Curator at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, will use Smithsonian Institution collections to highlight different ways that Latina activists inspire people to build a better future. This online presentation is a teaser event for our newest exhibit “Salt of the Earth” opening July 16, 2021! “Salt of the Earth” highlights the work of women activists fighting for miner’s rights in Silver City in the 1950’s.
