Volunteers are the lifeblood of community service. This week the City of Las Cruces and its volunteer program, the Volunteer Network, is honoring the indelible service of all of those that give their time and dedication throughout the City and the Network.
“Our volunteers are some of the most amazing people you will ever meet. They serve with excellence at their volunteer sites. They have gone above and beyond during the COVID crisis,” said Scott Rodgers, City of Las Cruces Volunteer Coordinator. “We thank them for their patience during a long hiatus of COVID and their willingness to jump back into action when the need arose.”
Numerous city programs could not offer services without the contribution of volunteers. The Network has more than 350 active volunteers serving in 39 different volunteer sites such as the Branigan Memorial Library, City of Las Cruces Museum System, and Senior Programs. Since 1974 agencies who depend on the support of local citizens freely giving their time, energy, and experience have celebrated National Volunteer Week (April 18 – 24).
During the pandemic volunteers helped pass out masks, register residents to receive their vaccine and support vaccination clinics as traffic controllers, screeners, and greeters. They spent long hours on their feet, even assisting vaccine recipients during a rain shower.
The City of Las Cruces expresses its gratitude to our volunteers and will be recognizing them with a small token of our appreciation in the coming weeks. We ask that all Las Cruces residents join the celebration by visiting the Volunteer Network’s Facebook page and adding the “I Love Volunteers” frame to your profile picture.
