The Museum of Nature & Science invites all middle and high school students to join us online for a virtual “Teen Science Café – Read Earth History in the Rocks: A Virtual Geologic Field Trip,” with guest presenter Brian Hampton, Ph.D.
The event will be a Zoom webinar at 6 p.m. Friday, May 21, 2021. Please contact Stephanie at shawkins@las-cruces.org to request a link to the event. This program is recommended for teens ages 11 to 17.
Take a virtual field trip to the Lucero Arroyo, just north of Las Cruces where the geologic history of Earth is exposed in the rock face. Participants will learn how to read Earth history in the rocks by reading the stratigraphy and see the geologic history unfold before their very eyes.
Dr. Hampton is an associate professor of geology at New Mexico State University. His research focuses on how erosion and sedimentation tell the stratigraphic history and tectonic evolution of Earth’s surface, particularly in basins.
The Museum of Nature & Science is currently closed due to the public health order. The Museum, at 411 N. Main St., is accessible via RoadRUNNER Transit Route 1, Stop 36.
