Community members have an opportunity to attend a second presentation for the Walnut-Madrid Bike/Pedestrian/Utility Improvements Project at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18 during a virtual public meeting hosted by the design architect Molzen-Corbin and the City of Las Cruces. The link for instructions of the meeting and to the meeting is https://www.las-cruces.org/engage.

The first meeting in February 2021 explained the project, which is to promote pedestrian and bicycle connectivity that encourages alternate modes of transportation. The pedestrian and bicycle improvements route is 2.25 miles which begins at the northern intersection of Hadley Avenue/Walnut Street, continues north on Walnut Street, crosses the intersection of Spruce Avenue/Kilmer Street, continues north on Kilmer Street, east on Popular Avenue, north on Evelyn Street, west on E. Madrid Avenue, and ends near the intersection of Madrid Avenue/Solano Street. Utilities infrastructure to be improved along this route include a new water main along Walnut Street, from Hadley Avenue to Spruce Avenue, and a new water & gas main along E. Madrid Avenue, from Evelyn Street to Solano Street.

The goal of the May 18 meeting is to provide an update based on public input to the previous meeting and for community members who did not attend the initial meeting to educate themselves and learn about the interconnection of these areas and associated improvements.

For everyone’s continued health and safety this meeting is virtual, and attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions after the formal presentation.

Anyone who has questions about the project may contact the Public Works Department at (575) 528-3333 or email Associate Engineer Natashia N. Billy at nbilly@las-cruces.org

Anyone with questions about how to access the zoom meeting should contact the Community Engagement Office at clcengage@las-cruces.org or call Jamey Rickman at (575) 541-2192.
