[ARCHIVED] Fire Damages Home on East Mesa

Porter Drive Fire

Las Cruces firefighters extinguished a fire that damaged a mobile home and caused relatively minor injuries to two occupants early Monday evening.

Shortly after 5 p.m. Monday, May 10, Las Cruces firefighters were dispatched to the report of smoke coming from a double-wide mobile home on the 5700 block of Porter Drive. Firefighters arrived to find flames coming from one of the windows of the residence.

Firefighters attacked the blaze with a handline and had it under control within minutes. The fire was contained to just one room, but smoke caused damage throughout the home.

The four occupants of the home safely evacuated. Two of the occupants complained of smoke inhalation and were treated at the scene by firefighters. Both refused transport to hospital. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.
