[ARCHIVED] Learn Tai Chi Chuan at Branigan Library

Tai Chi Chuan At Branigan Library

Thomas Branigan Memorial Library is pleased to announce that “Tai Chi Chuan Classes” will start up again, Tuesdays 9 - 10 a.m., beginning Tuesday, June 15. Classes will be held outside at Albert Johnson Park.

The Tai Chi Chuan form comprises a series of slow movements flowing from one to the next. Tai Chi was created to improve health, meditation, and self-defense. The movements are done slowly and calmly. The emphasis is on relaxation, correct posture, and the efficient use of muscles. Studies have shown that Tai Chi can help lower blood pressure and improve balance, coordination, and flexibility. It teaches stress management and basic self-defense, and conflict management skills.

The class will be learning Professor Cheng Man-Ching’s 37-posture Tai chi Chuan form.  The instructor, Steven Haydu, has over thirty years of experience practicing and teaching Tai Chi Chuan.
