[ARCHIVED] Fire Station 3 Public Art Presentations

Las Cruces Fire Station No. 3

Three top finalists for the Las Cruces Fire Station No. 3 public art project will present their design concepts to the art selection committee from 8:30 a.m. to noon Friday, June 18 at City Hall, 700 N. Main St.

The presentations will be in Conference Rooms B & C, on the second floor of City Hall. The public is welcome to attend the presentations, but attendance will be limited due to City Hall pandemic guidelines still in effect.

The proposed artwork should be designed to be integrated as part of the new fire station building exterior, currently under construction at 390 N. Valley Drive. The three finalists were selected by the Art Selection Committee from a pool of 109 submissions to the Fire Station Call for Entry and invited to present their design. The request for proposal describes the art project criteria as “The art’s theme should be inspired by firefighting, fire stations, or the station number. The final work should be iconic and contribute to the identity of the site.”

Each presentation is allocated one hour per artist. The first presenter is scheduled at 8:30 a.m., the second at 9:45 a.m., and the third presenter at 11 a.m. The Art Selection Committee will go into a closed meeting after the presentations to discuss and deliberate the designs and determine its recommendation for the fire station. The selected design will then be presented to the Las Cruces City Council at a future meeting for final approval.
