[ARCHIVED] City Hall Outdoor Lights to Change in Observance of Pride Month

Colored Lights City Hall

The outdoor lights at Las Cruces City Hall, 700 N. Main St. have been changed to multi-colored lights in observance of Pride Month, during June.

Colored light-emitting diode (LED) flood lights were installed Friday, June 4 and were turned on Friday night. The exterior of City Hall will be illuminated in a six-color scheme of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple that represents Pride Month.

The exterior of the White House, in Washington, D.C. has also been lit in years past using the same multi-colored scheme. The west side of City Hall, facing Main Street, will be lighted in the six colors for the remainder of June.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for the City to show support for our diverse community,” said City Councilor Gabriel Vasquez, who represents City Council District 3. “Pride is a time to recall the struggles that the LGBTQ+ community has faced and a time to rejoice the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community to Las Cruces. We are proud to celebrate and support PRIDE month through this visual gesture and hope that all residents will join us in the communal celebration of visibility and solidarity with members of the LGBTQ+ community.”

Additionally, in honor of “Make Music Day,” City Hall and Visit Las Cruces, 336 S. Main St. will both feature orange exterior lighting on June 21.

It is not the first time City Hall has been lit in colored lights. From November 12 to Nov. 30, 2020 the west side of City Hall was illuminated in blue LED flood lights in observance of Diabetes Awareness Month.
