The Las Cruces City Council will meet via video conference at 1 p.m. Monday, June 14, 2021, for a Work Session.
Funding the City has received, and is expected to receive again, through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), will be discussed by City Council at Monday’s Work Session. City staff has researched options for the use of the funds and will present them to City Council for discussion and direction.
The City received an initial $12,379,913 direct allocation from the U.S. Treasury through ARPA on May 19, 2021, for the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds. The funds have provided a substantial infusion of resources to help the City turn the tide on the pandemic, address economic fallout, and lay the foundation for a strong and equitable recovery.
A second disbursement of funds, in the same amount, will be allotted to the City in about one year. The funds are intended to be used for the following funding objectives, as defined in the Act:
- To support urgent COVID-19 response efforts to continue to decrease spread of the virus and bring the pandemic under control.
- Replace lost public sector revenue to strengthen support for vital public services and help retain jobs.
- Support immediate economic stabilization for households and businesses.
- Address systemic public health and economic challenges that have contributed to the in-equal impact of the pandemic.
