[ARCHIVED] Physical Fitness Exams in Las Cruces; Recruiters in El Paso

Academy Recruting in Las Cruces and El Paso

The Las Cruces Police Department’s training academy staff will have a busy weekend with physical fitness exams Saturday morning in Las Cruces and a recruiting booth Saturday and Sunday in El Paso.

The academy will conduct a physical fitness exam beginning at the top of each hour from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 12, at the Field of Dreams, 2300 Tashiro Drive.

Applicants, or those who are considering a career in law enforcement, should arrive well before the session they choose to attend. Participants are encouraged to wear clothing and footwear appropriate for the four physical fitness standards set by the New Mexico Department of Public Safety. The basic entry standards – the same for men and women – include:

  • A 1.5 mile run in 15 minutes, 14 seconds or less.
  • A 300-meter dash in 71 seconds or less.
  • Minimum 27 sit-ups in less than one minute.
  • Minimum 15 push ups in less than one minute.

Anyone interested in applying for the LCPD’s next academy is encouraged to attend one of the physical fitness exams. Academy staff and recruiters will be available for assistance and to answer questions about academy life and a career in law enforcement.

Meanwhile, Las Cruces police recruiters will be at the Bassett Center Arts and Crafts Market in El Paso on Saturday and Sunday. LCPD’s booth, near the Target store, will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The Bassett Center Arts and Crafts Market is at 6101 Gateway Boulevard West in El Paso.

Prospective applicants – those considering joining LCPD’s next Academy or current law enforcement officers who are considering a lateral transfer to LCPD – are encouraged to stop by, visit with a recruiter and ask questions at either event. All LCPD recruiters are commissioned Las Cruces police officers.

LCPD’s next academy is tentatively set to begin in January 2022, but applications must be received by July 30, 2021. Early submission of applications is encouraged. Prospective applicants can chat with a Las Cruces Police Department recruiter by texting “JoinLCPD” to 5753766817 or visit the Recruitment link at www.CLCPD.com.
