[ARCHIVED] Man Suspected of Sexually Assaulting Young Girl

Alan Duane Dodson Mugshot

Police have arrested a 46-year-old Las Cruces man suspected of sexually assaulting a young girl who was only 10 years old when the incidents first occurred.

Alan Duane Dodson, 46, of the 1700 block of west Hadley Avenue, is charged with two first-degree felony counts of criminal sexual penetration of a minor and four second-degree felony counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor.

Las Cruces police learned of the allegations against Dodson on May 1, 2021. Investigators determined the victim was 10 years old in 2020 when the first incident occurred.

Investigators learned that Dodson was in a relationship with a relative of the young girl and would sometimes watch over the girl when her mother went to work. The alleged assaults began about April 2020 and continued until March 2021. The girl’s mother learned of the allegations after discovering an explicit video on her daughter’s cell phone. The girl’s mother called police shortly thereafter.

Las Cruces police investigators obtained a warrant for Dodson’s arrest. He was arrested Tuesday, June 15, and booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he is initially being held without bond.
