A portion of Amador Avenue is temporarily closed following a two-vehicle crash that critically injured a motorcyclist.
About 1:15 p.m. on Friday, June 25, Las Cruces police and firefighters were dispatched to the crash that occurred at the intersection of Amador Avenue and Campo Street. First responders arrived to find a motorcyclist on the ground with critical injuries.
The motorcyclist, a man, was initially transported to Mountainview Regional Medical Center and then to University Medical Center of El Paso. He is listed in critical condition.
Preliminary information indicates the motorcycle was traveling north on Campo Street and was crossing Amador Avenue on a green light. A Honda sedan was traveling west on Amador. Police have reason to believe the Honda ran a red light and struck the motorcyclist in the far-right lane of Amador Avenue.
The driver of the Honda remained on scene and is being questioned by police.
The crash is being investigated by a multi-agency unit including Las Cruces Police Department and Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office investigators.
Traffic along Amador Avenue is being detoured beginning at Mesquite Street and all access points to Amador between Mesquite and south Main Street are temporarily closed during the investigation.
Motorists who utilize Amador Avenue are asked to seek an alternate route until the investigation is complete.
