The interior of the Police Athletic League building received much-needed attention and a fresh coat of paint on Saturday.
Several volunteers and Las Cruces first responders spent Saturday, June 26, inside the building, at 700 N. Solano Drive, prepping and painting walls and helping get the PAL gym ready for its re-opening later this summer. Just two weeks ago, on June 19, volunteers gave the exterior walls of the gym a fresh coat of paint in anticipation of the re-opening.
The PAL gym has been closed since the beginning of the pandemic and the building, even before the public health emergency, needed aesthetic attention.
PAL normally serves about 80 registered youth at a time in various activities including boxing and fitness training. Upcoming plans for PAL are to focus on various activities such as chess, tutoring and other engaging curriculum in addition to athletics.
Organizers anticipate reopening PAL to area youth later this summer.
