[ARCHIVED] Academy Hosting Physical Fitness Exams on Friday and Saturday

LCPD Applications for Police Cadets

The Las Cruces Police Department will conduct physical fitness exams for prospective applicants on Friday, July 16 and Saturday, July 17 for people who are considering a career in law enforcement.

The physical fitness exams will begin at the top of each hour from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Exams each day will be at the Field of Dreams, 2501 Tashiro Road. Applicants can choose any one-hour session to attend.

Participants are encouraged to download and complete a Physical Fitness Assessment Waiver form before attending a session. The form is available on the Las Cruces Police Department’s website. Participants need to submit a completed form when they arrive for their physical fitness exam.

 Applicants should arrive well before the session they choose to attend. Prospective applicants are encouraged to wear clothing and footwear appropriate for the four fitness standards set by the New Mexico Department of Public Safety. The basic entry standards – which are the same for men and women – include:

  • A 1.5-mile run in 15 minutes, 14 seconds or less.
  • A 300-meter dash in 71 seconds or less.
  • A minimum of 27 sit-ups in less than one minute.
  • A minimum o f15 push-ups in less than one minute.

Anyone interested in applying for the Las Cruces Police Department’s next Academy, which is scheduled to begin in January 2022, is encouraged to attend one of the physical fitness exams. Academy staff and recruiters will be available for assistance and to answer questions about Academy life and careers in law enforcement.

Applications for the next Academy must be received by July 30. Early submission of applications is encouraged. Prospective applicants can chat with a Las Cruces Police Department recruiter by texting “JoinLCPD” to 5753766817.
