The City of Las Cruces will host a candidate training on Ranked Choice Voting Friday, July 30. In the Ranked Choice Voting process, voters rank candidates by preference on their ballots.
The training will be given by Maria Perez and Grace Ramsey of Democracy Rising, a not-for-profit nonpartisan organization that works on educating the public, candidates, and media on ranked choice voting. Perez has years of experience in training local grassroot organizations about Ranked Choice Voting.
“I’m excited to bring this very practical information to Las Cruces candidates and their teams.” said Perez. “Information is power, and we want to empower the community ahead of this important election.”
The training will be held from 2 - 6 p.m. via Zoom on Friday, July 30. Registration is required at bit.ly/3AJa477.
This is only the second time Las Cruces voters will use Ranked Choice Voting. Ranked Choice Voting was first implemented in the 2019 City elections.
The City of Las Cruces municipal election on November 2, 2021 will determine who will fill Council District seats 3, 5, and 6. Candidate filing will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, August 24 at the Doña Ana County Clerk’s office.
Those interested in learning more about the Ranked Choice Voting process are encouraged to register for this training. If you have questions about City elections or this training you can call the City Clerk’s office at (575) 541-2115.
