[ARCHIVED] Mayor Ken Miyagishima Issues Emergency Proclamation

City Council Chambers

As the City of Las Cruces returns to full operations and City Council meetings are about to begin again at City Hall, Mayor Ken Miyagishima has issued an Emergency Proclamationto enhance COVID safe practices.

The Emergency Proclamation becomes effective at noon Saturday, July 17, 2021. It has been posted on the City of Las Cruces website and can be found at: https://www.las-cruces.org/DocumentCenter/View/7619//Mayors-Emergency-Proclamation-July-15-2021-PDF.

The Emergency Proclamation asserts that Las Cruces remains in a state of public health emergency because of the COVID-19 pandemic and will continue to implement and follow the guidelines issued in Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s Executive Order 2021-030 and the Public Health Order, issued on June 30.

The Emergency Proclamation is in effect for 72 hours, until noon Tuesday, July 20. However, there is a proposed Resolution on the Consent Agenda for the Monday, July 19, 2021 City Council meeting to extend the Emergency Proclamation.

The Emergency Proclamation requires people who have not been vaccinated, or are unable to provide proof of vaccination, to wear face masks while attending City Council meetings, which return to Council Chambers, at Las Cruces City Hall, 700 N. Main St., on Monday, July 19. People who plan on attending City Council meetings should be prepared to either wear a face mask or provide a copy of their COVID-19 vaccination card to security guards who will be at the entrances to Council Chambers. Anyone who does not have a face mask will be provided with a disposable mask.

Attendees in City Council Chambers will also be required to observe safe social distancing by sitting at least six feet apart. Social distancing and facial coverings are also required in all other public areas of City Hall for individuals who are not fully vaccinated, in accordance with the current Health Order.

For information, call the City of Las Cruces Communications Office at 575/541-2200.
