Mónica Martínez-Díaz will discuss the artistic journey of Iranian artist Arghavan Khosravi. Khosravi’s work combines surrealism with iconographic elements, and focuses on the complex relationship between gender, authoritarianism and censorship. Her paintings explore her role as an individual who lives between physical and metaphorical spaces by using melancholic imagery from her past and present life. Born in 1991 and raised in the US-Mexico border area, Mónica Martínez-Díaz is a visual artists who uses photography, video, design, and installation to create conceptually based work focused on the hyper normalization of violence in Northern Mexican society. Her work examines individual narratives pulled from her own experience growing up in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Martínez-Díaz received a BA in Photography and an MFA in Studio from the New Mexico State University. Her work has been exhibited internationally and throughout the United States in Woman Made Gallery at Chicago, the University Art Gallery at New Mexico State University as well as throughout Morocco, Northern Mexico, New Mexico and Texas.
